Touring Manitoulin Island

On Saturday we toured Manitoulin Island. We've visited many times, but it had been a few years since our last visit and so we decided it was time to return.

Little Current, Manitoulin Island

Travelling south from Espanola we crossed the swing bridge that separates the island from the North Shore.

We zipped through Little Current and drove west to Kegawong. Not only is it home to the beautiful Bridal Veil Falls, but more importantly Paddle Boy's favourite shop: Manitoulin Wind and Wave.

He'd had his heart set on a specific paddle, but they didn't have it in stock so we continued westward to Gore Bay. The view from the east gorge lookout is breathtaking.

We spotted two deer on the drive up, but I'm surprised Paddle Boy even noticed as no doubt he was still pining over that out-of-stock paddle!

Driving south we arrived at Providence Bay. Not only is there a long, sandy beach...

...but there's also a boardwalk to protect the Lake Huron dunes.

Now late in the afternoon, we continued via Mindemoya home, but first we stopped at another lookout just north of Espanola. The narrow road twisted and turned as the asphalt hugged the rock cliffs.

But it was well worth the trek.  The view was spectacular.

Do you see that smile? What a wonderful summer's day in Ontario!
