Dollars Lake

This past week we spent three relaxing days with friends at a rental cottage on Dollars Lake which is a 1.5 hour drive north of Parry Sound and an equal distance south of Sudbury.

The cottage has four bedrooms, a spacious kitchen/dining area and comfy lounge that's perfect for watching movies or completing a jigsaw puzzle, but it was on the dock where we spent most of our time.

This little guy scurried over to greet us and beg for peanuts. If we ignored him he'd climb right onto our laps and wander up our arms. Too cute!

One morning after spotting a water taxi taking passengers to the far end of the lake, we decided to go for a cruise ourselves.

The lake is quite large and scattered along the shoreline are cottages of all shapes and sizes. The more traditional cottages (i.e. built fifty or sixty years ago) were originally little more than a single room with a roof overhead. They've been renovated, expanded and added onto over the years.

Surprisingly, some of the boat houses cover more square feet!

It's difficult to say if these next few are four-season cottages or year round homes.

This 'cottage' had every water toy known to man and the landscaping crew was on site as we drove past.

About halfway between the cottage where we stayed and the town of Loring (below)...

is a water access restaurant. The outdoor tables on the deck offer spectacular views of the lake.

After four hours we headed back home and the captain stretched out for a much needed nap.

A special thank you to Dave & Flo for inviting us to tag along. Everything from the delicious meals to the great conversations and endless laughs made it absolutely perfect. Summertime in Ontario.
