One of our goals for 2019 is to take advantage of all that is available in Ottawa and that naturally includes its many museums. The Museum of Science and Technology is down the street and it literally turned John's life upside down!
The exterior is impressive with it's ever-changing video presentation.
That doesn't mean everything inside is high tech and I found this particular exhibit of a circa 1840 sleigh enchanting. The painted detailing is exquisite. Also included are snowshoes, skis and skates (bottom right).

Another fascinating fact is the historical connection between the Huron-Wendat Nation and snowshoes. Centuries ago they made snowshoes to travel more easily during the winter.
Today, the Huron-Wendat company, GV Snowshoes, is the largest snowshoe manufacturer in North America.
In later years, Canadians used the railway that linked Canada from coast to coast.
These 3-D printed body parts (initially used as a teaching aid for medical students) were a hit with children and adult visitors alike. At the bottom are five compartments to stick your hand inside and feel the organ...NO thank you!
This urine chart first published in a German book in 1506 lists the differences in colour, smell and taste to help doctors evaluate their patients. And yes, apparently doctors back then did taste their patient's urine.
The good news is I've always been wary of polar bears and given this next exhibit any wonder. They. Are. HUGE!
The museum even has a hand's on room dedicated to children and after one school group departed I managed to snap a photo without all the mayhem, squeals and commotion!
Not surprising, both John and I gravitated to THE QUIET ROOM. It was heaven!
All in all a lovely couple of hours and highly recommended.
