An A+ August

For so, so many reasons John and I are really enjoying this August. It's been hot and humid and during the ten days since my last post it's not only felt like summer, but John's been kayaking (and swimming) almost daily. He's even paddled twice per day on a couple of occasions, and in his mind that truly is the absolute best version of heaven!

One day last week when the mercury rose to 31C John suggested a picnic lunch north of town in Mississagi Park. It was a brilliant idea. Not only did he prepare lunch, but we had the beach to ourselves. Plus, there was a lovely breeze off the lake and the humidity was slightly lower. Even before we ate lunch, however, John jumped in the Semi-White Lake. I actually went in almost to my knees, so yes, it was a hot, hot day.

A few days later we met up with Mark and Alan at the Miner's Memorial on Horne Lake. It was our last chance to spend time with these two amazing guys before they set off to house and pet sit in both Ontario and beautiful British Columbia.

Between paddles John's been cooking some amazing meals (as per usual) and when we purchased some Ontario peaches he baked a clafoutis. We often have tea in the gazebo while we play a game of Scrabble and on this day it was particularly memorable.

Not the game. The dessert!

John's made clafoutis before with blueberries or raspberries, but this peach rendition could actually be our favourite. It tasted like summer

Yesterday was another warm, glorious day and in the evening John went kayaking on Elliot Lake.

While John went paddling I met my friend, Pat, and we spent a lovely couple of hours chatting to our hearts content.

At the end of each day this summer I've found the peace and serenity of the guest bedroom that now also serves as a sitting room to be the perfect place to curl up, relax and reflect on how very fortunate John and I are to be able to spend the summer here in the Great White North.

Life. Is. Good.
