It's never about the destination, but the journey itself and because we'd heard good things about Alexandria, a small community of approximately 3000 people in North Glengarry township just south of Ottawa, we decided to stop by for a quick looksee when we found ourselves in the vicinity. Settled by Scottish emigrants in 1792, the tall grey building in the middle of town is called the Priest's Mill.
Today the mill houses a glass studio and the green section on the left is home to the Highland Piper Pub and Restaurant.
The front of the building is on Main Street and not all the unique, however, the back offers its clientele an impressive view. Seating is either indoors or on this lovely patio.
From either location the view and sound of the waterfall is a welcome and added bonus.
I took both photos including the one on the masthead above from the same vantage point. If not for John pointing it out I would have missed it entirely. I do, however, have an excuse. I'd heard about Alexandria's murals and was determined to get some photos. So while he went off in one direction I headed in the other. This mural is directly opposite the mill.
While this one of the downtown section is on Main Street a few short steps from the pub and mill.
Back on the same street as the mill and barbershop mural is this building that rather appropriately houses a hair salon!
I love the decor of the window basket. It's a gorgeous addition to compliment the season.
Although Mother Nature isn't too shabby either. Take a look at the great colours surrounding the red brick building next to the barbershop mural.
