South from St. Anthony to Port aux Basques

Our final two days in Newfoundland were spent mostly on the road, as we travelled south from St. Anthony to Port aux Basques in order to take the ferry back to North Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Cow Head, Newfoundland

Our rest stop in Cow Head was the Shallow Bay Motel. It is open year round and provides employment for this small community of 475 residents.

Our room was on the second floor, top right window.

Cow Head is also home to Theatre Newfoundland's Warehouse Theatre. On Saturday evening we had front row seats and thoroughly enjoyed the hilarious and brilliant "Fly Me to the Moon" production.

The town itself is quite picturesque.

Our last full day in Newfoundland we drove south the Port aux Basques.

The St. Christopher's Hotel (large green building below) provided comfortable lodgings for the night.

While on an evening walk John spotted these murals.

The next morning we rose to a lovely sunrise and (thankfully) had a smooth sail back to North Sydney.

After four weeks on the "rock" we said goodbye to Newfoundland and its people, leaving with a cache of wonderful memories.
