Paris to Nice via SNCF Train

Mid day on Tuesday, April 17 we took a city bus from our Airbnb flat to the Gare de Lyon to catch the 14:11 train that would take us to Nice.

We were fortunate to have chosen this particular day to travel because the next day a national rail strike was planned and we would not only have been stranded in Paris, but we would be late arriving for our next housesit in Nice. Hence, the smiles!

The journey took six hours giving us ample time to admire the scenery along the way. It changed from low lying flatlands around Paris to rugged snow covered mountains in the south near Marseilles and then onto arid red soil and vineyards along the Med.

Next stop: Toulon

By the time we reached Antibes the sun had sunk close to the horizon and thirty minutes later in Nice it was dusk.

Exiting the train station we walked a short distance to the Alba Hotel on Avenue Jean Medicin.

Our room overlooked an inner courtyard which meant a peaceful night's sleep and lots of fresh air.

Once we dropped our bags off in our room we headed back outdoors and decided on the Casa Nissa Restaurant for dinner.

With it's inviting decor and soft lighting it was the perfect place to unwind after a long travel day.

Cheers!

We shared a carafe of wine to accompany my "Coalfish filet" and John's salad and "fresh Nicois raviolis".

We shared the "Duo Mini Tiramisu and Mini Creme Brûlée".

I tasted the tiramisu before remembering to take a photo!

It was almost eleven (23:00) when we returned to our hotel room and climbed into bed. Both of us slept like babies. It's such a joy to be back in Nice.
