Flowers, Festivals & Furry Friends

Warkworth, a small village in Northumberland County of 600 inhabitants, is a few kilometres from our housesit. With special events such as a Maple Syrup Festival, Art in the Park, Lilac Festival, Fall Fair, and Perfect Pie Contest it's a popular destination year round.

The homes range from large and impressive to quaint and cozy. These are all on Main Street.

The deck of this home was especially inviting. That table and chairs made me want to sit a spell and just soak in my surroundings.

The town hall, also on Main Street, is the centre for the arts.

Wide sidewalks lined with flower baskets, sandwich billboards and banners entice window shoppers inside an eclectic mix of shops selling everything from women's fashions to kitchen gadgets, pottery, handcrafted jewellery, candles and original paintings.

This one in particular caught my attention with all the brightly displayed pottery from Mexico.

The pottery and glass shop is a must-see and right next door is a bakery and ice cream parlour.

At the south end of Main Street is a stream.

Another Warkworth creation is the Millennium Lilac Trail. It meanders along the stream and on both sides of the trail are lilac bushes and trees.

There are benches and picnic tables here and there along the 2.5 km trail, and while the majority of lilacs were past their prime there were still a good many blooms to be found.

Today is our last day farmsitting and to be totally honest we're sad to leave. We've enjoyed living in scenic Northumberland county with its flowers and festivals and it goes without saying that we've grown quite fond of our furry friends.
