Our last full day in Nice was May 9 and it began with a glorious sunny morning at the port.
It's a view and part of the world that never gets old and we feel so privileged to be able to enjoy it now and again with Petra and "the girls".
THANK YOU Katherine and Paul for EVERYTHING! 💗
Knowing that we would soon be flying home to Canada, John and I strolled along the Promenade des Anglais and eventually ended up at La Civette near Place Garibaldi where we ordered some socca and wine.
That evening we welcomed Katherine and Paul home and spent a lovely evening catching up on their hiking adventures in the UK. (They truly are a real-life dynamic duo!)
Bright and early the morning of May 10, we headed to the Nice Cote d'Azur airport. We were tickled this time around to be able to fly direct from Nice to Montreal via Air Transat and even happier to report the 8.5 hour flight went smoothy. So smoothly, in fact, that when we arrived at our Montreal hotel John was still smiling - of course, me thinks that glass of wine may have helped a tad.
The train ride to Ottawa the next day was equally pleasurable and over the course of the next few days we reacquainted ourselves with the nation's capital.

While we were in France springtime flooding across Canada made the nightly news. Weeks after the height of the water had receded parts of the Ottawa River Pathway (shown below with the trucks and cranes) was still under water.
As were other sections of the pathway. This one, further east of Parliament Hill, is where we walked on Boxing Day and John cross country skied in the new year. The pathway is completely immersed.

The good news is we arrived back home just in time for the Canadian Tulip Festival. It's such a treat to see Major's Hill Park in bloom.
