I owe my daughter big time because while we visited her in Boston, she offered to not only drive us to Salem on a gorgeous sunny Sunday afternoon, but tag along as well. Her husband opted to watch a football game with his father, and Sarah told us he's like most people who live in the area. He avoids Salem, especially on any weekend in October, like vampires avoid garlic. It's crowded.
Really crowded. So much so that the 5-storey parking garage that normally charges $3.00 for an all day pass ups the price to $20. per vehicle AND the entire complex is filled with vehicles from all over New England.
To add to the party atmosphere there is a midway.
The little ones come dressed up in costume...check out Spiderman's muscles!
The fun isn't restricted to children. Even adults sport witch hats, and to be honest, I saw a couple of ladies who took their "witch-i-ness" quite seriously. ;)
What to do if you don't have a hat of your own? No problem. There are tons for sale of all sizes and shapes. I particularly liked the little witch hats that were 4" - 5" tall and more of a headband than hat. Oh, so chic!
Or perhaps Frankenstein is more your speed. This guy was real, btw. His makeup was amazing.
There were pirates and witches....(the pirate below looked exactly like Johnny Depp, but I spotted another pirate a little further down the street. A little older, he had a front tooth missing (really), and resembled Keith Richards (on a bad day). Scary guy!

Or, hire this ghoul, I mean, guy, to peddle you around town. His makeup was pretty cool, too!
It may have been mid October, but thanks to temps hovering around 70F the sidewalk cafes were doing a booming business.
As for the wizard, well, this human statue was one of the highlights of the day. Thanks, Sarah, for indulging me, and Happy Halloween!
