Glorious, GLORIOUS September 2021

September has always been my favourite month, but being ill in 2020 and undergoing radiation treatments meant I missed most of its splendour. This year, however, is a totally different story and on September 18 John and I hit the road to not only savour the glory of this incredible month, but also the majesty of the north shore of Lake Superior.

The last time we drove the Trans Canada Highway along the north shore of Lake Superior was at least a decade ago, and as we'd been heading out west to visit my sister we made as few stops in Ontario as possible. This trip, however, was a far more leisurely endeavour and as we only had 420 km to go on day one of our trip we made sure to stop as often as possible to take it all in.

It seemed totally appropriate (to me at least!) that this old woman should stop to visit Old Woman Bay and so we did! 😉

The clouds were unlike anything I've ever seen.

Our destination at the end of day one of our Lake Superior adventure was an Airbnb cottage located just a few kilometres south of Wawa.

I'd been searching for months for accommodations along the north shore, but Covid seemed to complicate everything and there was nothing available. I almost gave up and then, on the spur of the moment I checked online again and noticed this property was available for a single solitary night - September 18.

Imagine my excitement as September 18 just so happened to be the exact date of the one-year anniversary of when I received my devastating "six-to-twelve-months" prognosis. Well! I took that coincidence as a serendipitous sign that our Lake Superior road trip was meant to be a GO after all and immediately booked the cottage.

And I'm so glad I did. The owners are a lovely young couple who immediately made us feel welcome. The cottage is perfect for two with a fabulous view of the sandy beach and Lake Superior. It literally took our breathe away.

Needless to say we wasted no time and headed to the beach to soak up the surprisingly warm September rays of sunshine. Although we didn't venture into the water ourselves, we did spot a number of brave souls further down the beach who took full advantage of their surroundings.

As the sun sunk below the horizon we started a fire and sat back to watch the magic begin.

Mother Nature did not disappoint. It was a spectacular evening and we sat in awe as stars filled the sky. FYI, Lake Superior Provincial Park is a Dark Sky Preserve and for the first time in years we saw the Big and Little Dipper.

September 18, 2021 truly was a fabulous and memorable day and celebrating the 1-year anniversary of my best-before-expiry-date didn't hurt either! ðŸ˜‰ Plus, I spent it with John, the love of my life. It really doesn't get any better than this.
