Lake Huron's Northern Shore Boat Cruise

On Tuesday, October 5 the wind was calm enough and the weather picture perfect so we took our 14.5' aluminum boat out on Lake Huron. Although John has kayaked the north shore numerous times, this was a first for the both of us. Ahoy, me hearties!

Serpent Harbour

The north shore is a favourite yachting destination thanks to the multitude of deserted islands that seem too numerous to count - or name, for that matter. But each one is unique and hauntingly beautiful.

Perhaps I've heard one too many of John's kayaking stories, but the appeal of it really resonated during this short cruise As lovely as our boat is, it was impossible to carry on a conversation above the drone of the motor. And it certainly impacted the natural serenity of the lake. Next summer I may just have to join him in a kayak built for two. ;)

I was certainly glad John is familiar with this area often because I quite honestly would have gotten hopelessly lost. ;)

On our return trip John pulled up to the sand beach on one of the islands (shown below).

He even had the wherewithal to bring along some folding chairs. He's the best!

Other than this beach area that belongs to a trailer park there were very few cottages or buildings to be seen.

And of course, the autumn colours were almost at their peak.  Have I mentioned that September is my favourite month of the year?!

Thanks to Captain John for making this beautiful fall day such a wonderful adventure.
